THERE IS AN EPIDEMIC IN GREENE COUNTY THAT'S QUICKLY CHANGING THE FACE OF OUR COMMUNITY ...
There are multiple campgrounds, solar farms, event venues, and wineries that are threatening our country charm, and even our way of life.
In 2017 the Greene County Planning and Zoning Commission made a GRAVE MISTAKE and many family farms and agricultural livelihoods are at risk. They added all of the above businesses to the A-1 zoning designation.
Why is this BAD? Because ANY person from any state can buy an A-1 property and put in a campground, RV Resort, Winery, Solar Farm or other Event Venue and YOU HAVE NO SAY because it's "Zoned Correctly".
Have a quiet street? Crops next door? Cows grazing next to a future noisy campground? It won't matter how it negatively affects your home and livelihood. Unless we change it this will get to where we no longer recognize our home.
Our county officials could never have predicted a post-COVID world where many outsiders would move in and create businesses that they could turn around and sell, then retire elsewhere. People may not care about our homes, schools, volunteer fire departments, and other things that make us special.
We must FIGHT BACK!!!!! PLEASE sign this petition NOW to tell our county officials that WE ARE NOT FOR SALE and our way of life is NOT FOR SALE!
Tell them That we stand strong for Greene County and everything that we hold dear! We need as many signatures as we can before April as we can!
THERE ARE 2 PETITIONS TO HIT FROM TWO DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS AT ONCE!
- PETITION 1 – We are asking that they move campgrounds, and other non-agricultural businesses from A-1 designation to another designation. This will make sure that Greene County residents have a say if one of these businesses tries to come into their neighborhood because they will be required to apply for a Zoning Designation Change. (if you are a farmer who has a few campsites, an event venue, or another stream of income, this does not affect you. We are trying to change big businesses that are not agricultural)
- PETITION 2 – PETITION 2 – An Amendment to the current A-1 Zoning Designation. Currently, Small Day Care Centers with only 16 children are required to be off an (arterial or feeder street.) Yet Campgrounds, Mobile Home Parks, and other big traffic non-agriculture businesses DO NOT have the same limitations. They can place these LARGE businesses off any small country road they want, even those without lines that are only 1.5 lanes, without even checking on whether it will cause accidents, traffic, or other dangerous situations. These businesses have lots more traffic than Small Day Care Centers! These businesses MUST have the same restrictions or greater! It's unfair to limit small businesses and give LARGER BUSINESSES unlimited access. This change will help to keep campgrounds and other big traffic businesses off small country roads that are not designed for that sort of traffic.

My husband, myself and my kiddos just bought our forever farm in Camp Creek. Why am I doing this?!?! Because this happened to us ... an RV Resort is going in on our quiet 1.5-lane road that currently only has 7 cars per day. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
According to the Greeneville City Attorney, this is happening all over Greeneville, but no one is attacking the bigger issue to STOP this from happening again ... UNTIL NOW!
I love Greene County ... my great-grandparents were farmers on one of the oldest homesteads in the state of Texas. I personally am what you call a California Refugee ;) :) but I can see the writing on the wall if we don't do something NOW, our way of life ... our beautiful rural charm will change forever, and once it's gone, we cannot get it back!!!!
